Future of BlockPrinting

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

With the trend that has picked up... the future of this 'once upon a time' dying art looks bright, thankfully. This was an art which was practiced in the rural areas of a few pockets, and now with the demand and love that

has grown for block printing around the world, these fabrics are employed in styling any apparels, home decor elements and even accessories.

"Every time an artisan’s hand hovers over a textile as he ponders the placement of each wood block there is so much more than just dye stuff that impregnates the fabric…the textile vibrates with life and consciousness, it transforms itself into a ‘living’ textile encapsulating generations of skill, tradition, craftsmanship and a way of life" (Courtesy:saffronmarigold)

Block Prints have indeed taken a new unimaginable route. These fabrics have been employed by every industry and perforated in its roots to become an indispensable trend. Bed linens have been famous right from beginning - but today, they are used for making apparels, laptop sleeves, mobile pouches, drapes, cushion covers, table runners, aprons-you name it and its there.

These fit magically into the Western culture despite being Indian. The global wear-ability is because of the magic the block-print has and of course the efforts of those inked hands are very visible.

However the screen printing was eating up a larger chunk of the business opportunities that hand block-printing deserved. However because of the eco-friendly and sustainable nature of block-print and the fact that a large population is waking up to this fact, hand block-printed fabrics beats the screen printing technique. Watch for the difference between handprinted fabrics and screen printed fabrics in our next blog. Till then, scroll through www.indizyn.ch and appreciate that artisan's handwork and hard work.
